Over the past five years, the folk singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell has been on “a stunning creative hot streak” (Boston Globe). She has released four remarkable albums and assembled a starry entourage of collaborators that includes Jefferson Hamer, Ani DiFranco, and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon. Whether she is on a dark exploration of American manhood or mining old English and Scottish ballads, the Vermont native has built a vast and personal mythology. Her folk opera Hadestown—a retelling of the Orpheus tale set in the Depression era—will be produced by the New York Theatre Workshop in spring 2016.
