Dynamic soprano Mellissa Hughes is forging an artistic path shaped by a dedication to performing works by living composers and innovative artists of all stripes, including collaborators Steve Reich, John Zorn, Julia Wolfe, Efterklang, My Brightest Diamond, and The National. In a twist on the traditional voice recital, this rising star-to-watch offers solo works written for her by close contemporaries, including Jacob Cooper’s Silver Threads, Christopher Cerrone’s Requiem [For K.V.], Ted Hearne’s I Remember, and original electronic/vocal covers of songs by Kate Bush, Michael Jackson, Björk, Lil Mama, and others.
